Higher Learning
In ancient Enshalla, great schools of higher learning existed. Many of them tried to make the move during the Exodus, but the chaotic and turbulent times after the Fall brought many of them to an end. One did survive, though, the University of Magic. It was the largest school to be refounded in Iskitaan, originally in Taran, and later, in Mersone.
But even the great college of sorcery couldn't survive intact. Without the support of the Enshallen King, the University became subject to the whims of what ever local ruler happened to be in charge. Efforts to expand the school with branches in other cities largely failed, draining the already slim resources of the school. But this foresight is the only thing that did allow the University to survive, when, in 375, the new Lion King of Taran outlawed magic in his realm. The school fled with what resources it could to its fledgling, yet thriving branch in Mersone.
In Mersone, they found a more welcoming ruler, and grew large enough to become self supporting. The University endured through the tough times, until the rise of the First Dark Emperor. Forced into hiding, the University once again fell on hard times as it became harder and harder to find students with the gift of sorcery. Though only the University of Magic has endured since the Exodus, several more schools have been founded in the years since then.
